Spring comes after winter,
and we're still in December. But you know, I want to celebrate the spring
because it was special for us this year and will be again in 2020. This year,
in May, our granddaughter Catherine got married; this event stirred many
memories… Our own wedding—Francoise and me 53 years ago—runs through my mind
like a movie on an imaginary screen as if it were yesterday, as does the birth
of our first child, Isabelle, and her wedding with our son-in-law, Charles, in
1993. Isabelle and Charles soon made us grandparents and Catherine, their
daughter, took the lead when she married Christopher last spring. With
Catherine and Chris now expecting their own child, we are climbing yet another
rung up the ladder—getting promoted to “great-grandparent” status.
And then, last spring,
a new resident found shelter in our home: a three-month old little kitten that
we named Pancho. He quickly toured his new home, including all the cabinets, and
very soon learned to do his business outside and use the cat doors to go out,
one to go from the kitchen to the laundry and the other from the laundry to
outside. Pancho does not cause any problems in the house, he goes out and comes
back in as he wishes, he is perfectly clean and very friendly. If someone shows
up at our door, he goes out and sits down to contemplate the visitor. In the
evenings, he joins us to start his night at the foot of our bed, then
eventually leaves to finish the night elsewhere in the house, most often on the
sofa in the living room. In the mornings he jumps up on our bed to wake us up
because he is hungry, gently tapping Francoise's cheek with a velvet paw if we
do not get up fast enough. Normally it was around 7 am but Pancho did not adapt
to the time change and now wakes us up at 6 am... Pancho is a very nice
companion who is now 11 months old and has grown to the size and weight of an
adult cat. (See picture).
This is a summary of
the news of another year coming to its end. Françoise and I wish you a happy
New Year, a Merry Christmas with lots of presents and a Happy New Year 2020.
As usual, let's end
with music: a hymn to the spring, by Félix Leclerc (1914-1988), singer,
songwriter and French-Canadian poet with a deep voice. Here is this beautiful
song in French with English subtitles (sorry for this advertisement that
appears at the beginning of the video, click on Skip after a few seconds): https://youtu.be/r-fQi46HUKE
