At the beginning of December in Central Texas, we had some wonderful weather. One afternoon, Françoise was in our back yard enjoying the day and a young doe was peacefully grazing a little ways off. Françoise approached her slowly, talking to her softly all the while. The doe raised her head, watching Françoise, then walked toward her. I was watching them through the French doors that open up onto our back patio. I went outside and slowly walked over to join Francoise and her new friend. Françoise handed me her smartphone to take a few photos while she petted this beautiful doe which seemed not at all afraid of us. After I took a few photos, I got closer and there we were, Françoise and me, petting our new friend. Later, as I looked through the pictures, I was filled with feelings of peace and serenity, a notable moment in the midst of this strange period we are currently living in with this COVID-19. I wanted to share with you my favorite picture of Françoise with this young doe.
Thinking of peace and
serenity, I found a beautiful Ave Maria interpreted by the Dutchman Martin
Hurkens in numerous cities around the world. For 35 years, Martin Hurkens made
his living as a baker. Though he'd always dreamed of being a professional opera
singer, he didn't have the money to pay for music school. So, he sang while he baked (much
to the delight of his customers). Then one day, Martin lost his job with nothing
to fall back on. And so Martin traveled throughout Holland, singing in the
streets with his hat on the ground, hoping for enough tips to survive.
I thought this picture
and this song were appropriate for Françoise and I to wish you a Merry
Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Pour nos amis francophones
Début décembre dans
notre coin au centre du Texas. nous avons profité d'une température très
tempérée. Un après-midi Françoise prenait l'air à l'arrière de notre maison. Une
jeune biche était en train de brouter tranquillement un peu plus loin.
Françoise s'en est approchée doucement tout en lui parlant. La biche leva la
tête, regarda Françoise et marcha vers elle. J'assistai à la scène à travers la
porte vitrée donnant sur notre patio. Je suis sorti et ai rejoint Françoise et
sa nouvelle amie tout doucement. Françoise m'a alors confié son téléphone à
tout faire pour prendre quelques photos alors qu'elle caressait cette jolie
biche qui ne montrait aucune crainte. Après avoir pris suffisamment de photos,
je me suis rapproché et nous nous somme retrouvés, Françoise et moi, caressant
notre nouvelle amie. Plus tard, regardant ces photos, j'ai éprouvé un sentiment
de paix et de sérénité, tout spécialement durant l'étrange période que nous
subissons par suite de ce COVID-19. J'ai voulu partager avec vous ma photo
préférée de Françoise avec cette jeune biche.
Pensant paix et sérénité,
voici un splendide Ave Maria interprété par le Hollandais Martin Hurkens dans
de nombreuses villes autour du monde. Pendant 35 ans, Martin Hurkens a exercé
le métier de boulanger. Son rêve était de devenir chanteur d'opéra, mais il ne
possédait pas les fonds nécessaires à suivre des cours de chant. Alors il se
contentait de chanter pendant qu'il faisait du pain (au grand plaisir de ses
clients). Puis un jour, Martin a perdu son emploi sans rien avoir d'autre pour
gagner sa vie. Alors il a parcouru son pays, chantant dans les rues avec son
chapeau sur le sol, espérant des dons pour survivre.
J'ai pensé que tant cette
photo que ce chant étaient appropriés pour que Françoise et moi vous
souhaitions un joyeux Noël et une très heureuse nouvelle année.
